Low Nurse Staffing Across Georgia Nursing Homes
For nursing home staffing, Georgia stands 47th out of the 50 states plus Washington, D.C. The average is 3.56 hours of nurse care for each resident daily, versus 3.86 hours across the nation. Registered nurses deliver 0.5 hours of that care for each resident each day, under the 0.69 national average. In 261 of 345 reporting homes, levels were below what CMS expects; CMS is the federal Medicare agency that posts these nursing home records. The state's 356 homes average 2.7 stars out of five, which places them 45th in the nation and under the 3.0 national mark. Of those facilities, 248 are run by for-profit companies, and Pruitthealth leads the group with 60.
Georgia facilities drew 5,985 citations from inspectors during the past three inspection cycles. The largest group, 451, concerned rules on infection prevention and control, the state's most cited violation. Of the 382 citations involving resident harm or immediate danger, 70 were for accident hazards and poor supervision. Across 120 facilities in the state, federal regulators imposed $4,538,517 in fines. The largest single penalty, $267,426, was issued in June 2025 to Nurse Care of Buckhead in Atlanta.

Georgia Nursing Home Inspection Reports
Georgia's official GaMap2Care HFR Facility Finder lets families check facility licenses and read state inspection reports, and it covers homes licensed by the state. Federal inspection reports for every Georgia facility also open from that home's Medicare Care Compare page (once called Nursing Home Compare). They are the Form CMS-2567, a statement of deficiencies. Across the state's nursing homes, 43.0% of all citations came from complaint visits.

Speaking With a Georgia Nursing Home Abuse Lawyer
If danger is immediate for someone living in a Georgia home, dial 911 before anything else. For general injuries, the Georgia filing deadline allows 2 years under Ga. Code §§ 9-3-20 et seq., yet Georgia claims tied to nursing homes or to medical care can carry a different date, at times a shorter one. State rules come from Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 111-8-50, which implements O.C.G.A. § 31-8-100 et seq. Facilities must teach staff about residents' rights, display notices of those rights, and give every resident written material explaining rights, grievance, and enforcement procedures. For the family, an attorney can confirm the Georgia deadlines.
The provider information and health deficiencies files from CMS Care Compare supply the data.
